Disruptive Technology
Disruptive Technologies are technologies that change the game, creating new markets, transforming or destroying current markets often in a very short time. While many embrace the “build it and they will come” mantra, for every technology that becomes a game changer there are many that never fulfill their promise. Without adoption, there is no innovation. Understanding the potential disruptive power of technology is critical but so is understanding the processes which accelerate or impede their adoption. And understand the impacts and consequences – intended and otherwise – is essential. In addition to looking at disruptive technologies, their applications and impacts on vertical markets, and how we should plan when we cannot predict, we also consider their implications for policy and for education.
